Small Voice: Big Sustainable Impact

Small Voice: Big Sustainable Impact

I want to share with you the second TV program (the first one is here) that made me think twice and created another career move for me.

Fashioning a Bigger Impact:
I thought I knew everything about sustainable clothing design until I watched the program 'War on Waste' aired in Australia on ABC. From this program, I learned that every day in Australia alone, the equivalent of 180,000 litres of fossil fuels are thrown into landfills, just by us throwing away polyester clothing!
Polyester as you know is made from fossil fuels.
(Fun fact: As you know no Cream Collection garments are made from fossil fuels.)

Learning about this made me feel sick, and it was a wake-up call; I knew my small voice could have a greater impact by reaching a broader audience. And so, the idea of teaching sustainable fashion design emerged as the missing puzzle piece.
I wanted to encourage the next generation of clothing designers to embrace eco-conscious values and create circular economy design solutions. It wasn't just about creating aesthetically pleasing garments; it was about instilling a deep sense of responsibility towards our planet in future fashion designers.

Fast forward a couple of months. I am now learning how to be a great teacher and when I receive my diploma at the end of the course I will be so grateful to the 'War on Waste' program for enlightening me and making me think about how I can impart my knowledge to help others and this planet.
I feel confident that my small voice will have a big, beautiful impact.

I'd love to know if a TV program you've watched has changed your career. Please let me know by leaving a comment below.
